TK3723

Dual Turbo-EPON™ (1/2.5Gbps) Optical Line Terminal System-on-Chip with Multi-Service Traffic Management and Shaping

TK3723

The TK3723 is the industry’s first EPON Optical Line Terminal (OLT) System-on-Chip (SoC) with two dual-speed Turbo-EPON™ MACs and multi-service traffic management and shaping. Teknovus’ Turbo-EPON MACs support both 1.25Gbps and 2.5Gbps downstream data rates, enabling carriers to reduce costs by employing higher split ratios and/or increase ARPU through deployment of service models tailored for single-family and multiple-dwelling-unit (MDU) residential, and small/medium business and enterprise subscribers.

Designed for access networks serving both business and residential subscribers, the TK3723 provides all the built-in functionality and performance required for OLTs delivering triple-play services. The TK3723’s Turbo-EPON MAC features a configurable Dynamic Bandwidth Algorithm (DBA) that supports hierarchical fairness for guaranteed Service Level Agreement (SLA) contracts. Fully configurable L2/L3/L4 line rate packet processing allows for advanced classification, filtering, and application monitoring.

To meet the needs of subscribers and carrier business models, real-world triple-play networks face the challenge of continuously delivering an endlessly-varying combination of bursty MPEG-compressed video, latency-sensitive VoIP calls, and Internet traffic. High-capacity traffic management and shaping in the central office/head-end are required to satisfy these requirements – yet may add many thousands of dollars in CapEx. The TK3723 has more than 2,000 shapers and supports up to 512MB of packet buffering – enabling 2-5 seconds of buffering per IPTV channel, while grooming network traffic to optimize utilization while maintaining guaranteed service levels.

Product Features

  • Dual Turbo-EPON™ MAC SoC enables a variety of high-density OLT chassis and pizza-box applications
  • 2.5Gbps Turbo-EPON downstream data rate supports over 20 HDTV streams while leaving 1Gbps for data traffic or enables high split ratios for reduced CapEx
  • Field-proven hardware-based DBA guarantees SLA service contracts, maintains bandwidth-allocation fairness, and optimal link utilization
  • ARP snooping, ARP proxy, and Precise ARP support provide faster response and prevents a variety of malicious user attacks
  • Multicast Group (MG) traffic management minimizes channel zap time and enhances image quality by minimizing packet loss, latency, and jitter
  • Comprehensive rule-based packet classification enhances network security, SLA enforcement, and supports billing applications
  • Over twenty VLAN modes allows flexible VLAN configuration, service to VLAN mapping, traffic classification into VLANs, and VLAN tag manipulation for service and management domain transition
  • China Interoperability Mode support (OAM extensions, triple-churning key encryption) is fully compatible with CTC requirements for China EPON deployment
  • Over 2K queues with up to 512MB packet buffering enables traffic grooming/shaping while supporting multi-service deployment and avoiding head-of-line blocking conditions
  • IPv4 and IPv6 support supports compatibility with latest next-generation network deployments and service upgrades

The TK3723 is compatible with all Teknovus CPE Optical Network Unit (ONU) chips. With its feature-rich architecture and cost-effective functionality, the TK3723 chip is the ideal solution for OLTs delivering cost-effective triple-play services over FTTB and FTTH access networks.
